Resita's City Hall is involved in several projects related to city's overall road infrastructure transformation. Tramways will be reintroduced for public transportation and this will be accompanied by the addition of a series of new pedestrian crosswalks. Additionally new intersections will be equipped with traffic lights. After analyzing current traffic management solutions' performance deployed in Romania, City Hall wanted to push further the performance limits and avoid mistakes done by other cities. Here it is how GreenWay will solve City Hall's problems and needs:

  • New traffic management system to be deployed

As the total traffic light intersections/pedestrian crossings number will rise from 8 to 24 a full analysis of the impact on traffic was run using GreenWay's 3D simulator. Latest traffic audits data was used as input for simulations. Considering different scenarios involving up to 3 times more registered vehicles than current values, GreenWay generated 3D simulations of dual simultaneous adaptive green waves capable to successfully cope with the increased future traffic in a time horizon covering year 2040.

  • City Hall wants to be the first Romanian city having a fleet of public transportation electric vehicles that are crossing the intersections in a prioritized manner

Through better road capacity usage GreenWay manages to activate dedicated public transport lanes. Proprietary GW hardware can be installed onboard of PT vehicles, so that they can launch requests for priority pass when in range of an intersection or pedestrian crossing. Traffic lights controller managing the nearest intersection/pedestrian crossing receives that request and grants the passage in the shortest time possible.

  • City Hall experts analyzed current state-of-art traffic management solutions deployed across Romania in cities like Timisoara, Iasi and Bucharest. They concluded that these implementations reducing delay times in traffic with values between 3 - 15% is not satisfactory, thus needing a different approach and solution to fit the best city's urban mobility aspirations

Hundreds of hours of 3D traffic simulations were run to certify and validate the average 45% delay time reduction even in high traffic volumes scenarios. Parallels were made between Resita's specific traffic characteristics and previous GW deployments in Braila and Roman cities.

    3
  • City Hall experts eliminated from the start the possibility of traffic detection made using inductive loops, as their installation and lifelong maintenance is cumbersome and expensive

Traffic detection, classification and overall statistics is done by GreenWay's advanced computer vision algorithms based on artificial intelligence and dedicated hardware. Thus and so, a more reliable and effective traffic detection will be deployed, eliminating the need for costly inductive loops.

    4
  • City Hall requested an extended extra-warranty for the traffic management system so that it will not become obsolete/unreliable in the next 5 years or more

GreenWay offers by default the TrafficCare option which translates into system's continuous traffic quality monitoring and improvment. Additionally GW solution provides a class-leading full 5 years warranty for the installed proprietary equipment.
